The Best Apple Crisp

This is THE BEST apple crisp ever. It only a few minutes to prep the ingredients before tossing in the oven to bake. The oat/crushed nut topping adds a layer of yummy flavor and texture that goes beyond your average crisp recipe.

Total Time: 60-75 minutes 

Servings: 6

Ingredients (filling): 

  • 6-8 honeycrisp apples 

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar 

  • 1/4 cup flour 

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt  

Ingredients (topping):

  • 3/4 cup flour

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 6 tablespoons butter OR coconut oil 

  • 3/4 cup rolled oats

  • 3/4 cup crushed nuts (pecans + walnuts) 

  • Optional: vanilla ice cream

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350º

  • Grease a 9x13 heat proof baking dish 

  • Peel & thinly slice apples (you can dice them, but the slices is what helps add such great texture to this recipe!)

  • In a large bowl, combine apple slices with brown sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well to combine. Set aside.

  • In a separate bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Whisk to combine. Add in cubes of cold butter or small spoonfuls of solid coconut oil. Use a fork or your fingers to combine into a crumb-like texture. Mix in the rolled oats and crushed nuts. 

  • Add spiced apples into the baking dish and cover with the topping. 

  • Bake for 45-60 minutes until the topping is just browned and the apple mixture is bubbling. 

  • Slightly cool before serving. Top with vanilla ice cream!
